Why Choose Odyssey?
Our beliefs
Children, by nature, are learners and are capable of high achievement
Families are the first and primary educators for children
Children need a safe learning environment, accepting of their individuality and diversity, learning styles, and abilities
Learning occurs best when positive, long-lasting relationships exist between families, educators, and communities
Children become involved citizens and contribute to the community when they experience supportive environments and caring relationships with others.
Small class sizes
Our class sizes truly set Odyssey Academy apart from other schools in the area. At Odyssey, we know one to one time with a teacher is an important factor in the success equation. To ensure students get the attention from teachers that is necessary to ensure success, we use the following guidelines when determining class sizes:
Kindergarten: 18 students per classroom
Grades 1–5: 21 students per classroom
Grades 6–8: 22 students per classroom
Odyssey C.A.R.E.S.
Our teachers are trained in Responsive Classroom, a social curriculum which helps build our school into a learning community where both social and academic goals are obtained. Under the Responsive Classroom model, the C.A.R.E.S. character development philosophy is key to our success. C.A.R.E.S. stands for Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-control.
Over the course of the year, every Odyssey student is recognized for demonstrating at least one of these characteristics. They have their photo taken for an appearance on the C.A.R.E.S. Showcase board, and are recognized during classroom celebrations.
