We have just a few openings left in kindergarten for next school year. If you intend to enroll any of your children in kindergarten for next year, now is the time! Please contact Denise in the office at 763-971-8200 if you would like to receive enrollment materials for next year.

Open House:

Odyssey has been having a series of open houses this spring for enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year. The next open house will be on Thursday, May 21 at 6:30.

If you know of any families that are looking for a great educational experience for their child(ren), encourage them to attend the open house and get more information.

Trash to Treasure Contest Tallies:

Total milk lids - 307 = $15.35.

Total box tops - 1379 = $137.90.

Total ink cartridges count was 29 and total cell phones count was 28 which also will bring in cash.

Mrs. Montray's class brought in the highest total of items and will be having a caramel corn party next Friday.

In other fundraising news, the spring book fair raised $202.63 for the teachers to use to purchase books next fall.

Thanks to the many Odyssey families that helped to support these fundraisers.  Every little bit helps!

Kids’ Club

Kids’ Club will be open this summer from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Track and Field Day:
Friday, May 22 will be Odyssey’s annual track and field day. All of the students participate within grade “teams”  The 3rd-5th grades will have a turn in the morning, then the kindergarten-2nd grades will have a turn before lunch, and the 6th-8th grades will have a turn after lunch.

Mr. Fritschel needs parent volunteers during each of the scheduled groups.  Please contact Shel Auld at (763)971-8200 or mskbauld@yahoo.com to sign up or for more information.

B.C. Reads!
On Tuesday, May 5, there will be a community event at Brookdale Mall called “B.C. Reads”, and the theme is Cinco De Mayo! The event is co-sponsored by Odyssey Academy and Garden City Elementary School.

There will be a reader’s theater performance by Odyssey 4th and 5th graders, story reading, face painting and other literacy activities.

Please mark the date and plan on attending this fun community-building event. If you would like to participate (we are looking for face painters, and more), please contact Shel Auld at (763)971-8200 or mskbauld@yahoo.com.

Thank You, Odyssey Teachers!

Teacher Appreciation day is Thursday, May 7. We encourage all families to offer a token of their appreciation (even a homemade card from the child) to the teacher(s) that has offered so much time and attention to your child(ren).

We will be serving a catered lunch to the teachers and are scheduling for them to be able to enjoy it together  We need

support from all Odyssey parents!  We will need monetary donations for the meal (even $2 – every little bit helps), and also parent partners to assist with the classes while the teachers eat.  Most of the classes will be with a para at lunch and recess during this time, so the parents will not be supervising the class alone.

Please give what you can to show your appreciation to the Odyssey teachers.  Contact Shel Auld at (763)971-8200 or mskbauld@yahoo.com to let me know what you can do to help.

Odyssey Partners Are The Best!
Odyssey parent and community partners logged 158 volunteer hours in the month of April! This is the equivalent of $2022! Thank you for your support!

Adventure Trips This Month!

They are finally here! All classes, kindergarten through middle school, will participate in an adventure trip this spring. If you have questions about the adventure trip for your child’s class, please contact the classroom teacher. If you have questions about your student’s individual fund raising account please contact Shel at mikauld@aol.com or (763)971-8200.

Be sure to get all the necessary paperwork completed and handed into your child(ren)’s teacher(s) by the due date.

Donation Request (again!):

Thanks to the numerous donations from Odyssey parents of fabric and polyfil a few months ago we now have four large body pillows in the media center! The students have been enjoying them when they take part in the “reading to the dogs” program, or when relaxing with a book.

We have had a request for a couple more large pillows to be made that will be used by our occupational therapist.  There is still a large amount of fabric available, but we need more polyfil for stuffing the pillows.

Please send in donations of polyfil to the office.  For more information contact Shel Auld at mskbauld@yahoo.com or (763) 971-8200.

Help Wanted:

Lunch Time:

Even though the end of the year is approaching, we still need extra hands during lunch periods for kindergarten through fifth grades. Third through fifth grades eat from 11:50 – 12:15.  Kindergarten through second eat from 12:15 – 12:40. Helping students with containers, assisting at the salad table, dispensing condiments and helping staff with dismissal times will be the main tasks.

Please contact your student’s teacher or contact Shel Auld at mikauld@aol.com or (763)971-8200, to get more information or schedule a time you can come in and help.

Thank You!
Thanks to all of the families that generously donated food for the teacher’s dinners during conferences in April. Once again, the teachers enjoyed plenty of snacks, main dishes, drinks and desserts on both Wednesday and Thursday  We are very grateful for the willingness of Odyssey families to show support to our staff.

Please Note Cancellation:

The Band Recital and Art Fair scheduled for May 7 has been cancelled.

Attendance

Remember that it is important for your student to be on time each morning. Late arrivals disrupt the education of not only your student, but the other students in the class as well. Students should be in their classroom ready to learn promptly at 8:10 a.m. Please call the school office with any questions.
